Frequently Asked Questions
If you don't find your answer here, please contact us and we will be glad to answer any questions you have!
What format of audio will you transcribe?
We handle digital files such as MP3, WAV, and WMA. If you have an audio file on a DVD, CD, or cassette tape, we can convert it into a digital file for you. Whatever your file format, we will help you get it transcribed. Note: There is a $1.00 charge for each DVD or CD we convert to digital format for you, and a $5.00 charge for each cassette tape we convert to digital format for you.
I want the 10% discount for weekly service. How does that work?
We offer our lowest rate for weekly sermon transcription services if you send at least 100 audio minutes per month. Your audio sermons can either be sent to us through email or Dropbox, or we'll be happy to watch for them to be posted on your website each week and then download them for you. Transcripts will be sent to you through email or Dropbox within 4-5 business days, or we'll be happy to post them on your website for you. You will be invoiced once a month; payments will be due within 30 days.
Bonus: If you order weekly service, we'll also transcribe any other sermons you send us for the same discounted rate. In other words, you'll receive the 10% discount for your weekly sermons and/or that old series you've wanted to turn into a book or even your complete sermon archive.
How many audio minutes do I need to send to receive the bulk order discount?
A minimum of 250 audio minutes.
When will my transcripts be delivered?
If you have less than 250 audio minutes, your transcripts will be delivered within 4-5 business days, but if you need your transcripts back more quickly than that, we'll be happy to work with you. We offer rush service (2-3 days), 24-hour service, and same-day service. These services are $1.00 to $2.00 extra per audio minute. Please note: same-day service and 24-hour service are not available on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays. If you have 250 audio minutes or more, we'll work out a turnaround time that works with your schedule.
How do I pay you?
If you just need a few sermons transcribed, we'll send you an invoice through email after we receive your audio sermons, and payment will be due by PayPal or check before work begins. If you are signing up for weekly service, we'll send you an invoice through email at the end of each month and payment will be due with PayPal or check within 30 days. If you have a bulk order, we'll be happy to work out payment arrangements with you.
How do I send you my digital audio file?
If your file is smaller than 20 MB, you can send it through email. If not, we highly recommend Dropbox. Dropbox is a free file-sharing service. We will create a Dropbox folder for you, and all you have to do is drag and drop any files you want transcribed into your folder. When you put a new file in your folder, we will receive a message that there is a new file. We'll drag and drop the file onto our computer and get right to work on it.
Is it possible for you to download the sermons from my website and then bill me?
Yes, we would be happy to do that for you. Please click here to get started.
If I get weekly service, will you skip guest speakers if I want you to?
Yes, we'll be happy to skip certain weeks or speakers. Make sure you indicate your preferences on the order form.
How will my transcript be delivered?
You will receive your transcript as an email attachment, or we can send it to you with Dropbox. Transcripts can be saved and printed whenever and as many times as you like.
Do you offer podcast transcription?
Yes we do. We can transcribe individual podcasts on an as-needed basis, or if you prefer, we will subscribe to your podcast feed and check for new feeds on a daily basis. Once we see a new feed, we will transcribe it and send the transcript to you within 4-5 business days. If you need it back more quickly, let us know, and we'll do our best to work with you.
Do you transcribe verbatim?
Unless asked to, we do not transcribe strictly verbatim. Although we do as little editing as possible to ensure the pastor's intended meaning isn't obscured, we do correct improper grammar, leave out the uh's and um's, recast sentences to make them read more smoothly, and correct misquotes or wrong Scripture references... For instance, if the pastor says 1 Thessalonians 1:5, and our research clearly indicates the verse being quoted is 1 Timothy 1:5, we'll correct it. If the pastor says King David said such and such and our research clearly shows King Saul said it, we'll put the correct name.
What does "consistency in formatting" mean?
It means if you send us multiple sermons and they are handed out to multiple transcriptionists to be transcribed, when they're all done, the transcripts will look like there were all transcribed by one person. You won't get this service from any other transcription company.
This is especially important if you're writing a book. If each sermon transcript represents a chapter in your book, you don't want one chapter with super long paragraphs and one with super short paragraphs, or one chapter with contractions and the next chapter with contractions expanded, or one chapter with straight quotation marks and the next one with curly quotation marks. And on and on. Can you even imagine how long it would take to fix all that?
Where are your transcriptionists located?
Our qualified transcriptionists are all US citizens and work from home. SermonScribe is one of the few transcription businesses that does not outsource work to India or the Philippines.
Where do I mail physical audio cassettes/CDs/DVDs to you?
Please contact us for the mailing address.
Do you transcribe anything besides sermons?
Yes, but we prefer to work on projects that are a good fit with our area of expertise. In other words, maybe you don't need sermons transcribed, but you interview Christian leaders or have a podcast that relates to church, leadership, or Christian issues; we'd be happy to transcribe those kinds of things. Feel free to contact us about your needs, and we'll do our best to help you. If we can't help you, we'll refer you to another reputable transcription company.
What other services do you offer?
We also provide manuscript-typing, copy-typing, interview transcription, conference transcription, and proofreading services for pastors, evangelists, church leaders, authors, publishers, and seminary students.
Do you pick up and deliver?
